Motorola has confirmed that the Moto X40, its next high-end smartphone powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 , will debut sometime in December.

Expected in the global market as Edge 40 Pro, the device seems to take another step towards trying to become an attractive option for enthusiasts by being the first device of the brand in years to have IP68 certification, promising to be the “SUV of smartphones”.

The news was given by the general manager of Lenovo China’s smartphone division, Chen Jin, through a post on Weibo, where he confirmed that the Moto X40 will be officially presented in December.

The executive did not disclose specific dates, but it is expected that the device will be presented at the beginning of the month, considering the increasing amount of announcements of devices equipped with Qualcomm’s rookie processor.

Jin went further by confirming that Motorola’s next flagship will feature IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, absent from the giant’s top of the line for years – one of the main criticisms of more advanced users and the specialized media.

With the return of the resource, the company signals that it wants to attract the enthusiastic public again, who took refuge in rival cell phones equipped with more complete packages.

Together with the post, the general manager of Lenovo Mobile published a teaser image that states that the Moto X40 seeks to be the “SUV of smartphones”, being ready to “face not only urban scenarios, but also rivers and mountains”, in allusion to the return of IP68.

Another interesting point to be highlighted is that Chen Jin would already be using the device to publicize the teasers, confirming in recent weeks several aspects of the novelty.

Moto X40 breaks records on AnTuTu

Protagonist of multiple teasers and leaks, the Motorola Moto X40 is the brand’s first device to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, and would have been able to break records on AnTuTu: according to the company, the novelty reached 1,312,901 points , the highest score ever recorded in the benchmark, surpassing the former record holder and also newly announced MediaTek Dimensity 9200.

The phone would also embark on a premium design in metal and glass with curvature on all sides, a 6.67-inch OLED screen with Full HD + resolution, 144 Hz refresh rate and HDR10 +, up to 18 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage.

Another novelty, until then expected only for the Chinese variant, is the so-called MAXE System Engine, an algorithm that automatically adjusts the load on the chipset to optimize performance for different tasks, in order to make it more efficient.

In cameras, the Moto X40 should be more modest compared to the Moto X30 Pro, but represent a notable evolution compared to the standard Moto X30 ( Edge 30 Pro in the rest of the world).

Accompanying a 60 MP selfies lens, the rear set would offer a 50 MP main, 50 MP ultrawide and 12 MP telephoto sensor, with 4x optical zoom. A 5,000 mAh battery would close the package, with 125 W fast charging, and Android 13 from the factory.
