Scheduled for release during Google I/O this year, the Pixel 7a will be the intermediate version of the trio of Google smartphones for those who want a device from the company but don’t want to pay so much for a premium model. Just like the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, the new Pixel 7a will retain the previous generation’s design with minor changes.
A series of photos released by the Vietnamese website Zing News reveal the main design details of the Google Pixel 7a in dark gray, confirming the look of the Pixel 6A with a bulging strip in the region of the camera module and two main lenses, in addition to the LED flash.
As a major change, we can note the presence of the metal finish on the horizontal bar that divides the back cover into two regions, offering a look that is reminiscent of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro modules but without the large bulge of the more expensive models.
Other photos still show the device with characteristic elements of the current generation, including a USB-C connector and sound outputs in the lower region, a circular notch at the top of the display to house the front camera, and an aluminum side frame.
One image reveals that the carrier chip drawer will be sealed to protect against water, but we don’t know yet if the Pixel 7a will receive an IP certification like the more expensive models.
The Pixel 7a is expected to come with the same Tensor G2 processor that equips the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, now with 8 GB of RAM instead of the 6 GB of the previous generation, and a screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz instead of 60 Hz, resulting in more fluid animations and games.
The Pixel 6a was announced during the 2022 Google I/O held in May, so it is very likely that the company will continue the tradition and present its new smartphone at this year’s event scheduled for May 10th. More details related to colors, prices, and specifications should emerge in the coming weeks.
